🎉 Last week I completed the Coaching Certificate program at INSEAD in Fontainebleau. A 9 months’ journey with a fantastic group of international people. A journey where I had to surrender myself to experience-based learning. Where the performer in me struggled to cope with assignments that were set up for failure so we could learn from the process and outcome; where we were constantly pushed to be curious about our discomfort and confusion; where we had to examine if the emotions we sensed belonged to us or were rather a projection of the other(s) onto ourselves? “What does this tell us about you?” is a sentence that still lingers in my mind. But above all, three weeks of connecting with people passionate about coaching, with different perspectives and experiences who all contributed to the learning experience. So grateful to you all ICC15 participants, Big Thank You! 🙏www.powerandcare.com

**Space for new coachees** As I'm wrapping up my coaching degree at INSEAD this month, I seem to be getting some time back in my diary! Are you looking to move ahead in your career or change your career path entirely? Or do you want some help with personal matters, whether that's taking an important decision or simply a difficult conversation you plan to have? Let's work together to identify your goals, discover root causes of challenges you're facing, and get you moving forward in a way that feels attainable and sustainable.Sometimes, all it takes is 1 or 2 conversations rather than an entire trajectory. Or maybe you'd just like some HR advice. I'm flexible in the way I operate and am open to virtual or in-person sessions.Ready to move forward? Visit www.powerandcare.com for more details.

Week 2 of INSEAD's Executive Coaching program has come to an end. Here are some insights that struck me. Which one stands out for you?1. The chief reason people refuse to confront the whole issue of power is that if they did, they would have to face their own powerlessness (Rollo May) 2. Reputation is a prediction of your future behavior based on what you've done3. Attractive people have faster careers and earn more money4. When your self-monitoring (mastering the presentation of self) is high, you will have a faster career and you're better able to behave as needed in order to succeed5. Sponsors: spot opportunities for you, do the marketing for you, give you a cover and are often within your organisation. Mentors: are more focused on your learning journey (what/how), are the ones to discuss difficult conversations with and are often people outside your organisation (or direct working environment)6. Don't over-individualize emotions that you feel in a group setting. They may belong to the group rather than you 7. If you want to change an organization, you have to change the individuals in it8. Diverse teams can achieve higher results IF leadership is functioning well and diversity is 'engaged with' rather than 'tolerated'

Week 1 of the Executive Coaching Program at INSEAD is a wrap! Two more weeks to go in 2024. It was intense, inspiring and fulfilling! Together with 32 individuals from over 10 countries, we embarked on this journey. As I’ll go through the program in the coming months, I will try to share some key take-outs that struck me (the less scientific side of me didn’t always capture the source…sorry!). Herewith the first 7: 1.Power is seen as belonging to the individual in terms of personality or position. Authority is seen as belonging to a role. 2.In a dialogue with another, we judge ourselves on our intent and the other on their behaviour.3.Culture is what we do, not what we say. (A simple cultural model can be constructed with a Performance axis and a Behaviour axis). 4.Managers spend 80% of their time on the top 5% and bottom 5% of the organization 5.40% of the variables in coaching is defined by the coachee’s willingness to change.6.The word ‘creativity’ was first used in 1926, before that time the concept of 'creation' was reserved for God(s)7.No matter how many thoughts you have today, tomorrow 97% will be the same. So the magic is in those 3%Curious to hear how you reflect on the above!

Bye Rituals, hello L'Oréal!This month marks the beginning of a new free-lance adventure. After 15 fantastic months at Rituals it's time to move on and further explore the world of 'beauty and nothing but beauty'. I look back on an unforgettable experience, with amazing colleagues. Learned a lot about Retail, the obsession to get every detail right in the shops, and to make Power Points look like Spa menus (not kidding). Wishing this beautiful company all the best with its further expansion to the East. It's been incredible to see what can happen in a year! Thanks for all your kindness and all that you taught me Rituals. I enjoyed every single day and hope to see you again.Marije Van der Meer-Bezemer Mariëlle De Loo Lesley Fagel Dirk van Zon - you rock!
